Kate MacDonagh; Japanese woodblock print, 2013; Strokestown House Kate Mac Donagh was born in Sligo and now lives in Sandycove, Co. Dublin.She is a daughter of Walter Mac Donagh from Elphin St, Strokestown. “My piece in this anthology is a woodblock inspired by drawings she made in the walled garden of Strokestown House”
Leonora Neary; Acrylic on Canvas; 2013 Leonora Neary lives in Sligo but is Roscommon born grew up just a few miles outside Roscommon town, on the Boyle road. Rockingham, Forest Park, Boyle has been a constant inspiration since her childhood.
Jolanda van Herk; Pencil drawing, 2012. Jolanda van Herk is from Holland but has lived in County Roscommon for more than 5 years. She is a founding member of the Community Art Group, Ballaghaderreen a body dedicated to doing art and sharing this experience with others. She loves animals.
Merrily Harpur; Oil on canvas; painting of a lime tree in Strokestown Park. Merrily Harpur is a painter, freelance cartoonist and writer and has contributed regular cartoons to many publications including The Guardian and The Sunday Times. She lived for a time in County Roscommon where, in 1998, she co-founded the Strokestown International Poetry Competition and Festival and of which she was director until 2004 and again in 2009/10.
Ann Treacy; Acrylic Ink on watercolour paper, 2012. “I'm a native of Ballinturly, Athleague, and although my home has been in Dublin for many years now I'll always be a Roscommon woman first. The old mill and weir on the river Suck, Athleague, is a well known and well loved location for generations of local Roscommon people”
Michael Wann; Charcoal and wash on canvas, 2013. Raised in Dublin, lives in Sligo and is married to a Co Roscommon woman. Boating on Lough Key is a major pastime.
Trances Crowe; woven tapestry, 1982. “Woven when I first moved to live in County Roscommon from Dublin, I was inspired by the landscape around the location of my newly purchased cottage and studio. Every morning I would walk in the fields which surround my home in Four Mile House make drawings and recording the ever changing landscape throughout the seasons”
Veronica O'Connor; Lithograph, 2013; from Boyle Abbey Veronica O'Connor grew up and is “ very proud to be living in Boyle, Co Roscommon. Boyle Abbey has been etched into my mind over the past 30 years. I pass this inspiring building at least once a day. I always marvel at its endurance since the 12th century in contrast with the fleeting changes of my daily living.”
Susan Mannion; Etching and Aquatint, 2013 Susan Mannion is a printmaker living in Boyle, Co. Roscommon “ I love the carvings on the capitals at Boyle Abbey. In particular a series of little men grasping vine leaves. I decided to isolate one of the men and draw and then cut the image onto a wood plate and then hand printed the image”
Vida Pain; Oil on Canvas, 2010; Castlerea Station. “Born in England to Irish parents, I grew up and was educated here in Lisacul, County Roscommon where I now reside and work as an artist / tutor. The work was inspired by my love of architecture, often painted at skewed angles which capture light and colour”
Gavin Porter; etching, 2012. Gavin Porter from the north of Ireland is a local artist living in the Boyle area. His work consists mainly of etchings and drawings.
Honor Fitzgerald; Mono print, 2013; from Roscommon Abbey. Honor Fitzgerald, originally from Galway, has lived and worked as an artist and teacher in Roscommon for 35 years. Her images were inspired by the fifteenth century stone carvings in the Dominican Abbey adjacent to where she lives.
